Join us on November 5 for the next in our triple-play series where you'll get up close and personal with three rising singer songwriters. Each half-hour set will give you just the right dose of the uniqueness of the artist's distinct style and character. All in the intimate setting that has made Acoustic Long Island a highly sought-after venue for both artists and audience members alike. Here's more about the talent being featured:
Dean Fields - Originally from Mechanicsville, Virginia, Dean Fields was discovered by The Miami Herald’s Evelyn McDonnell at a songwriting event in Florida. “Go, so you can say you saw him when,” She wrote in the Miami Herald, “He sings with the tender high tenor of Tim Buckley and the plain-spoken poetry of Jim Croce." He was soon named “Best of Miami” by local press, picked to play at the premier of Billboard Live, bailed on graduate school and dedicated himself to performing and writing. “I just woke up one day and said, ‘screw this, all I want to do is play music.” Songs on the Mend, the latest solo acoustic release was written in bars, venues, and hotels while on tour performing over 500 shows since hitting the road in 2003. The 10 songs capture the raw honest expression of a young artist on the rise. Columbia’s Free Times agrees, "Dean Fields writes lyrics like Leonard Cohen and sings like Jeff Buckley. It’s no surprise that there’s a serious buzz on this Virginia singer-songwriter" Fields is fueled by a single-minded passion to play sharing the stage with Bruce Hornsby, Hootie and the Blowfish, KT Tunstall, Julie Roberts, Cake, Ingram Hill, Josh Kelley, John Hiatt, Aqualung and many others. Sheri Miller - Born in a musical household in Long Island, New York, Sheri Miller grew up listening to her mother, an opera singer belt out beautiful arias in the night, while playing classical Debussy piano. She began to sing with a local Philly blues band, while secretly sculpting her own songs. After college, Sheri moved back to New York to Park Slope, Brooklyn, and made steady rounds at local open mics like The Raven, while practicing her acoustic guitar and keyboard for hours in her basement apartment. She immersed herself in the poetry of Charles Bukowski, O. Henri, Marcel Proust, Margaret Atwood and Maya Angelou. She melted into Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles, classical music, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding and Billie Holiday. Brimming with inspiration, Sheri developed her own sensual soundscape of hypnotic bluesy American soul meets classic British melodic-pop, bringing it to the stages of The Bowery Ballroom, Joe's Pub, World Cafe Live, The Bluebird Cafe, The Canal Room and The Living Room. She has had a song featured on the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Compilation, Volume 4. For more, go to www.sherimiller.com.
Chris Cubeta and The Liars Blub - is a brash, Americana rock band from Brooklyn led by compelling and charismatic frontman Chris Cubeta - a relentless songwriter whose lyrics combine nuance-soaked imagery with incisive observations. The band’s sound is equally eclectic, combining the wispy, sensitivity of the singer/songwriter with the unbridled thrill of rock and roll. Fresh off their first-ever residency at The Living Room in June of 2008 as well as a packed Saturday night summer gig at Mercury Lounge, The Liars Club is ready to take off. Time Out New York calls The Liars Club “ a sturdy, passionate, local roots-rock quartet.” In addition to being an accomplished and versatile musician, Cubeta is also a skilled solo performer who has opened several times for Chris Trapper (formerly of The Pushstars). A longtime resident of upstate New York, Chris moved to Brooklyn in 2005 and the band has since played prime slots at some of the city's most prestigious rooms – Pianos, The Bitter End, Trash, The Delancey, Crash Mansion and Rockwood Music Hall to name a few.
